Freedom Town

22 students in Year 8  performed in Birmingham Town Hall on Tuesday evening (6th October 2009) at 7-30pm.

The project involved students from GDIS, George Dixon J & I, City Road J & I , Benson Community J & I and Moseley School who worked with local musicians such as Black Voices, Birmingham Big Band and Soweto Kynch.

Other local performers and technicians worked with the schools in order to prepare for the concert. The project was supported by Birmingham Town Hall /Symphony Hall and the Arts Council. The aim of the project was to raise awareness of life in Freetown, Sierra Leone and linked young people in Birmingham with one of the least developed countries in the world. Issues such as slavery, human rights, child soldiers and freedom have been explored in the project.
